I’ve been recently looking for a car to work on. You think this wouldn’t be a difficult task, right? Well, its not so simple.

I always go to look at the biggest car I can afford. Not because I need the space, power, or luxury. Nope, this is simply because I’m addicted to luxobarges. So when a 1989 Lincoln Town Car came up for sale near me, I decided to take a look. Inside, it was mint. Tan interior, not a single stain or aftermarket part. Outside, however? Well, you could tell it was parked under a pine tree for quite a while. There was black, sticky sap everywhere, the vinyl top was split, and there was evidence of paint touch up, possible due to rust. Since it was unplated, at a transmission shop, and I couldn’t hear it running, I decided to leave it to someone else. A neat car, for sure, but definitely not what I need right now. So I went back to the drawing board.

My cruiser was parked under a pine for a while before it was sold. Im STILL getting the odd pine needle out when I wash it and there is STILL sap on it.

Actually, I’ve seen a lot of nice, clean, low km, only driven to church by old people cars in Penticton and south to the border. Plus hot weather and no snow mean less rust to deal with.

Our 81 Toronado lived most of it’s life parked beside an orchard in Cawston.. it took ten years of Kootenay snow to get it to rust.
